Devotions for Colossians 3:12-17, #6

This is the last of the set on Colossians. I have one more set, from Psalms 63.

17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Whatever we do for a living, whether it be sweeping floors or piloting aircraft, is something that God has given us to do for now. How you approach your job is your decision. Your attitude is yours alone. You can look around you and worry that you’ll never make any difference, that you’re stuck here forever, or you can look to God for his timing for you to make your difference.

Meanwhile, it’s your decision to do the best you can at what you’ve been given to do. When you realize that if you look to God and give him your work on a daily basis, you begin to do your daily tasks in the name of Jesus.

But the decision to give your work and your life to Jesus is yours alone.

Lord, I look to you as my Shepherd. Guide me. I put myself, my life, and my work in your hands.
