4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your Name I will lift up my hands.
Yesterday, David decided to take up praise as part of his life, and today he vows to keep it as a habit for as long as he lives.
Frequently in the Old Testament, the Name of the Lord (with a capital N) was analogous to His Presence. In Deuteronomy 12, Moses says, “…seek the place the LORD your God will choose … to put his Name there for his dwelling. … There, in the presence of the LORD your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice”
So here David is giving God the greatest honor and praise he had to give: to lift his hands in his Presence.
Lord God, all honor and praise is yours. I joyfully offer what I have to give.
