Guided by Noise, Not Sense

I saw an interesting quote today:

It is all too possible that the actions of Congress may be dictated by noise, not sense; by meanness, not greatness; by contracted hearts, not large souls…

There must be decency and respect and veneration introduced for persons of authority of every rank or we are undone. In a popular government, this is our only way.

These words could have been printed in an editorial this morning. Instead they were written by John Adams, in 1776.

We are all called to something greater than ourselves; how we answer that call affects not only us, but countless others.
