Every so often you come across something that makes you think:
And it makes you feel tiny and insignificant.
And it reminds you of how amazing our Creator is, and how amazing his creation is; if only we’ll take the time to look and appreciate it.
This is a wind map of the US. When you look at it, take a moment to appreciate where the Highs and Lows are that the meteorologists are always discussing, and how they affect our weather. Take a moment past that to realize that this is a God’s-eye view, and that this is only one small corner of that great big planet he made: Earth.
Take a further moment as you look at it, to contemplate: This all-powerful Creator, grander than all human perception, became human and died so that he would not lose us to sin. In other words, he would rather die than lose us.
If you have never done so, take a moment in your heart and thank him.
I want to specifically credit the people who are bringing you this live data map, at HINT.FM:
This is the collaboration site of Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenberg. We invent new ways for people to think and talk about data.
As technologists we ask, Can visualization help people think collectively? Can visualization move beyond numbers into the realm of words and images?
As artists we seek the joy of revelation. Can visualization tell never-before-told stories? Can it uncover truths about color, memory, and sensuality?
God is real. And his living, breathing creation shouts his praise, every moment.
