I’ve not seen this covered widely yet, and it would make a good headline story for a newspaper. I don’t often comment on things of a political nature, but because of the depth of the hypocrisy, I cannot hold my tongue any longer.
Trump ran on the promise of cost-cutting. “The Federal Government has so much waste! And I’m the only guy who can fix it!”
Trump loudly complained about all the money wasted on ‘endless vacations’ and frequent golf outings by President Barack Obama.
Trump told us time after time about all the time and money wasted by Congress.
It’s time for a reality check.
As of this weekend – only two months into his administration – Donald Trump has spent more on travel to Mar-a-Lago and other Trump properties by being gone every weekend than Barak Obama spent on vacations during his entire first year in office. Click here to look up the source.
This from the guy who said he’d ‘never leave the White House because there is so much work to do’.
I’ll say it again: Trump has only been in office for two months. Two. Months. And he takes every weekend off.
We now have two badly-written immigration bans which have taken legal time and resources to evaluate, and to hold to account. Not to mention inciting hate against an entire people of Muslim faith. And this from a country who used to pride itself on tolerance.
Trump tweeted incendiary (and badly spelled) accusations of “wiretapping by Barack Obama”; accusations which had to be investigated, thus wasting valuable time and money by Congress and various law enforcement agencies. For a guy who said he was going to “drain the swamp”, he sure has dumped a lot of sewage into it.
And just because ‘we don’t want to change schools for Barron Trump’, the cost to protect the First Lady at Trump Tower in New York City is running between $127,000 and $146,000 PER DAY, along with an estimated $4.5 million dollars per year in fire protection. (Source can be traced through the same story link above.)
Why is no one asking the simple question: Who pays for this?
So where does the money come from for this? Taxes. You and me.
We the taxpayers are getting stiffed and no one seems to be complaining. In times where we demand the best deal for our dollar, I find this hypocritical lack of concern disturbing.
What gives me greater pause is the “cost-cutting” in the just-released Trump budget, in which these cost cuts directly affect poor and low-income people. Let me go a bit farther here: as an executive, Trump has had to be accountable to his Corporation. Therefore he will know very well what his travel is costing. And those costs have to come from somewhere. Yes, I’m pointing back to the cuts in programs for low-income people.
After listening to people bitch and moan for eight years about ‘all the horrible, tremendous waste in the Obama administration’, the silence here is deafening.
Is no one counting the cost? Or are those of certain political persuasions afraid to?
